Route 159 Agawam, MA

Owner: MADOT, District 2
Project Value: $3.8 M
General Contractor: Palmer Paving Corp

Serving as the projects general contractor, PPC is responsible for performing at least 50% of the overall project.

The work included micro-milling and road widening and resurfacing a section of Rt. 159 (Main Street) in Agawam beginning at the MA/CT state line and ending at the interchange with Route 57.

Included in the general work was adjusting or rebuilding drainage and sanitary structures, rebuilding/resurfacing driveway aprons, installing highway guardrail, installing pavement markings, installing signs, signals and making curb repairs.  Additionally, the job required sections of the project to have land clearing, excavation and embankment work as well as modification to a bridge.

A heavily travelled state road, this is one of the main entrance roads to New England’s biggest and most popular theme park – 6 Flags of New England.  Additionally, as the main thoroughfare in the town, business owners and the general public would be impacted by the ongoing construction this season.  PPC project personnel worked closely with DOT and Town highway officials to ensure the public was not negatively impacted or obstructed during the construction.
